On #InternationalTranslationDay, a note from our Translators – #Hindi #हिन्दी #Urdu #اُردُو

At PARI, we publish our stories in English and the translations of these stories in many Indian languages – Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Malayalam, Gujarati and Punjabi. We even have a story in the Mizo language. On the International Translation Day, September 30, 2017, PARI highlights some of the translators who do this work, and their thoughts on translation.

Dr. Mohd. Qamar Tabrez is our most prolific translator and the only one who translates English into two languages -Urdu and Hindi. He writes:

If you know more than one language, you are living 2-3 lives at a same time. I think translation is directly linked to the service of humanity. Through translation you are not only able to understand minds of different people, but also helping others in acquiring knowledge. It gives me immense pleasure while doing translation.

अगर आप एक से अधिक भाषाएं जानते हैं, तो आप एक साथ 2-3 जीवन जी रहे हैं। मेरे ख्याल से अनुवाद का सीधा संबंध मानवता की सेवा से है। अनुवाद करके आप न केवल दूसरे लोगों के दिमाग को पढ़ने में सफल होते हैं, बल्कि ज्ञान हासिल करने में दूसरों की भी सहायता करते हैं। अनुवाद के समय मुझे अथाह संतुष्टि मिलती है।

اگر آپ ایک سے زیادہ زبانیں جانتے ہیں، تو آپ ایک ساتھ ۳۔۲ زندگیاں جی رہے ہیں۔ میرے خیال سے ترجمہ کا سیدھا تعلق انسانیت کی خدمت سے ہے۔ ترجمہ کرکے آپ نہ صرف دوسرے لوگوں کے ذہنوں کو پڑھنے میں کامیاب ہوتے ہیں، بلکہ علم حاصل کرنے میں دوسروں کی مدد بھی کرتے ہیں۔ ترجمہ کرتے وقت مجھے بے پناہ طمانیت حاصل ہوتی ہے۔
