Sainath spoke at the #IAmGauri rally in Bangalore. He referred to the CPJ report which points out that 40 journalists have been murdered — 23 of them in direct retaliation of their work — since 1992. Most of these have been rural journalists and almost all wrote in Indian languages.
Sainath drew attention to another pattern:
“In BJP ruling states, it’s mob violence. In Congress ruled states, it’s assassination. In non-Congress, non-BJP states, it’s communal violence.”
